House ⇆ Shed ⇆ Field
Lecture by Ito Tamotsu
An event hosted by plenty.online, Frano Karlovic and ZAZ BELLERIVE. The event will be held in English.
Navigating between his native Gifu and metropolitan Tokyo, Tamotsu Ito cultivates an adaptive architectural methodology. Whether addressing demographic shifts through his rural Clinic in Ariake Village, applying subtractive strategies (genchiku) to obsolete industrial facilities, or intercepting regional waste streams to construct civic structures, Ito treats specific site conditions and inherent restrictions as generative constraints rather than limitations, viewing both urban and rural environments as archives of spatial potential.
At ZAZ Bellerive on Saturday, November 7th, Ito will frame this approach through the «Non-Modern Hybrid,» treating architecture as an open-ended network of material and societal relationships. Confronting a neoliberal reality where society has forgotten «how to make,» he argues for the critical necessity of «re-assembling» our built environment. Fluidly navigating between the established domesticity of the «House» and the open context of the «Field» to assemble the multiplicity of the «Shed,» Ito outlines a tectonic practice that sincerely accepts an uncertain future.
Bar will be open prior to and after the lecture.
